I'm Patrick O'Connell. Industrial designer, eight years on my own, about $6M in design fees, a design practice still running today at a seven-figure run rate, and 700+ designers across 25 countries. None of that is the point.
The point is where I started: quitting my nine-to-five, around the time I was parking cars at a casino for fourteen dollars an hour and getting up at half past three for mentor calls. I failed at this three separate times. I didn't start with an audience, money or contacts.
The distance between that start and now is habits and systems, not talent. These days it runs from Bali: two hours of work on Wednesdays, golf on Fridays, my wife hasn't had to work since 2018, and for three years I've never missed my kids' school events. The machine runs. I steer it. And that's what I teach.
